The exit of the People’s Conference has seemingly left the PAGD adrift. The five-party alliance including big players like National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party have not met for nearly two months now.
Seemingly, the PAGD is disinterested in the elections to the chairpersons and vice-chairpersons which they have lost in six out of 13 where they had the mandate when results were declared on December 22 last year. The alliance also hasn’t appointed a new official spokesperson since Sajad Gani Lone left.

In December, when the results of the first ever direct elections held in Jammu and Kashmir after its reorganisation were announced, they were along predictable lines.
The Kashmir valley had overwhelmingly voted in favour of the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, a conglomerate of older, regional political parties that have been demanding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and special status under Article 370 of the Constitution, which had been dismantled by the central government in August 2019. The Jammu region, meanwhile, voted largely for the Bharatiya Janata Party

New Delhi, Feb 11 (IANS) Failing to win even one of the nine district chairpersons and vice chairpersons posts for which elections have now been completed in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), valley-based traditional ruling parties, National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have begun to level allegations of horse trading.
SRINAGAR: Nine DDC Members headed by Party’s District President Budgam called on Party General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar here at Party Head quarters Nawa e Subha. The delegation of 8 DDC members from NC and one DDC member of PAGD apprised the party general secretary about the clumsy and unfair mode of election and lottery system employed for the election of DDC chairman.
The visiting delegation acquainted how the local administration favored a particular DDC member to benefit him in the election by ditching all established norms and rules. The visiting delegation that called on Sagar included party’s District President Abdul Ahad Dar (DDC-BUDGAM), Nazir Ahmed Jahra (NC-DDC-Surusyar), Bashir Ahmed Bhat ( NC-DDC-Khansaib), Riyaz Ahmed Rather (NC-DDC-Narbal), Sayika Akhtar (NC-DDC-Parneva), Afroza Akhtar (NC-DDC-Nagam), Insha (NC-DDC-Chadoora), Bahir Ahmed Dar (NC- DDC- Pakhar Pura) and Saima Jan (PAGD-DDC-BK-Pura) rued the prejudiced manner in which the entire election process

SRINAGAR, Feb 8: The National Conference which has eight District Development Council (DDC) members in Budgam lost the chairmanship to an Independent candidate while Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) stayed away from the election meetings in North Kashmir today fearing cross voting. The Peoples Conference candidate was elected as chairman in Kupwara.

In Budgam, the PAGD despite having majority of 10 DDC members with NC having eight lost the chairmanship of the DDC to an independent candidate, Nazir Ahmad Khan.
