Lawyer Kwaku Asare aka Kwaku Azar has described the apology of Muntaka Mubarak, the Asawase MP over his bribery allegation against a Supreme Court judge as half-baked.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has promised to be impartial as far as his new role is concerned.
There are fears that as a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alban Bagbin and the NDC caucus can team up to frustrate the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
However, during sitting on Friday, 15th January, 2020, the Speaker said:
“Much has been said of the fact that I come to this position from a long career as a politician and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); one of the two parties represented in this House. But as far as I am concerned that fact is of no consequence to my new role as Speaker.

A number of Ghanaians, including the respected Prof. J. Y.A Atsu and Dr Eric Oduro Osae, have optimistically argued that the balanced nature of our Parliament signifies effective and functional democracy ahead, as our elected representatives are more likely to act independently and objectively in deliberations before the House. I am no pessimist and will not want to undermine the hope and enthusiasm that such postulation carry with them.
However, I see one flaw running through the argument about the positivism generated by a balanced Parliament. It is the uncanny suggestion that it has always been the influence of the Executive and the desires of the Majority that have triumphed in legislative and deliberative undertakings. The issue of excessive partisanship and failure of individual elected members have been brushed away.
