+ The newly sworn-in Speaker of the Eight Parliament of Ghana, Mr Alban Sumana Bagbin, has pledged to serve all Ghanaians faithfully. He said he will bring to the fore the huge bank of experience he has gathered over the years as a parliamentarian in the discharge of his new duties as the speaker of Parliament. Mr Bagbin made the remarks in his acceptance speech after he had been sworn-in by the Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah as the new Speaker of Parliament for the Eight Parliament on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the Parliament House in Accra. Bagbin has been in Parliament since the advent of the 4th Republic and has served virtually in all positions available in the House.

Parliament Elects Alban Bagbin As New Speaker Of The 8th Parliament

The Clerk of Parliament has confirmed that Alban Sumana Kinsford Bagbin has been elected Speaker of the 8th Parliament. The Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli Kaleo and former second deputy speaker of the 7th Parliament won with 138 votes according to reports received from Peace FM s Parliamentary correspondent, Emmanuel Akorli. The results suggest that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) side of the house beat the New Patriotic Party (NPP) side with two votes to put Mr. Bagbin ahead of the former speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye. The election process started moments after 12:00am January 7 and ran through the night to about 6:00 am amidst chaos and confusion.
