In a phone interview on Thursday, PDRRMO emergency operations center director Ron Castillo said two river systems in the province have already overflowed while some are at critical level following the onslaught of severe tropical storm Florita that brought heavy rains on Tuesday and Wednesday. In a phone interview, Ron Castillo, Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office emergency operations center director, said they are on red alert status since Monday. "Our equipment and personnel have been on standby since yesterday awaiting deployment if needed," he said. As of Tuesday morning, Castillo said there were no reported landslides or flash floods as well as evacuation operations in the LGUs. "Some areas in Dagupan City and some barangays in Calasiao town were already flooded," he said. Castillo said the river systems in the province are still at normal level. SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union - Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David suspended work in government offices and classes in schools on Wednesday following the magnitude 7 earthquake that jolted Lagangilang, Abra, and other parts of Luzon. In Executive Order No. 10, David said the suspension exempts those who are performing frontline essential response services in the provincial government. "The province of La Union was not spared by the earthquake and initial assessments are being made by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and aftershocks are expected thus might endanger the safety of all workers and to ensure that all homes and establishments are safe, there is a need to suspend work in all government establishments and schools," she said.
