The Delhi Police will tighten security in the central parts of the national capital today as hundreds of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers and supporters gather to protest after its shock defeat in Chandigarh Mayoral polls.
Civil defence volunteers protested in central Delhi against the termination of their services by the city government last year. The volunteers, previously engaged in roles such as bus marshals, demanded reinstatement outside the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headquarters. The Delhi Lieutenant Governor approved the termination proposal in October, leading to the volunteers dissatisfaction. Slogans were raised, and protesters threatened a fast unto death if not reinstated within three days. The Civil Defence Act defines their role in providing protection against hostile attacks, emphasizing assistance to local administration.
The Delhi civic body may just be about one of the many wings of governance in the national capital, but the AAP win today holds much wider significance.
