After energy supply prices reached historic highs in New England last year, Eversource now says its customers can expect to see a decrease on their bills when the next adjustment to the Standard Service rate takes place here in Connecticut on July 1. The energy company will file new electricity supply prices it receives from power suppliers with the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority in Connecticut after completing its procurement process as outlined in state regulations. They remind you that your total bill ultimately depends on how much energy is used, and many customers typically use significantly more during the summer months when they run air conditioners to stay cool.

Cantor Penny Kessler, the senior clergy and spiritual leader at the United Jewish Center in Danbury, has announced her retirement. Kessler has been leading the prayers at UJC for 28 years. It was back in 1978 when Kessler and her husband relocated from her original home in Brooklyn, to Danbury, where her spouse planned to open his dental practice. She worked as a secretary for a while and then in her husband’s dental office. She also raised three children as she planned on becoming a dental hygienist. Then one day she was given the opportunity to fill in for the cantor, and realized she had the knack. She started at UJC in July 1995 and never looked back.

Danbury Police were called last Sunday to the La Quinta Hotel for reports of someone there who was practicing dental work. Officers arrived to find a man who claimed he was conducting dental referrals. But when they entered the guy’s room, they found an impromptu operating set up with dental drills, suction machines and a portable X-ray machine… along with various medications. Then a man came out of the bathroom with gauze in his mouth. He told officers that he had just had a dental procedure. Danbury Police arrested Hugo Moraes-DeLima, who is now facing charges including practicing dentistry without a license and illegal sale of prescription drugs. He is being held on a $350,000 bond.

Today, Eversource will begin maintenance work along the Rail Trail, starting at the Ridgefield substation at the Prospect St/Sunset Lane entrance and moving towards Redding. Work will be done today through Saturday in compliance with the town’s noise ordinances. During this time, sections of the Rail Trail are expected to be closed to pedestrians. A developer has released plans to build 22 single-family homes in Bethel’s Stony Hill area on a little more than 6 acres of currently vacant land between Benedict and Millbrook roads. A public hearing will be held later this month on the proposal by Steiner Incorporated of Bethel. The proposed new community would be called Homes at Fieldstone Commons. The proposed homes would range in size from 1,800 to 2,200 square-feet. The project also includes green space and a common area.
