Two leading Connecticut-based nonprofit organizations, United Way of Coastal Fairfield County and United Way of Western Connecticut, are merging under a new, single entity, United Way of Coastal and Western Connecticut. It’s seen as a partnership that brings together the strengths and resources of both organizations to create a united force for positive change and enhanced community impact across Fairfield and Southern Litchfield Counties. The new organization will serve more than 25 percent of the state’s population across 27 communities.

In New Fairfield, a second referendum date will be set for voters to weigh in on what has become a very controversial $52.3 Million school budget and a $13.6 Million town budget. The date will now be picked at next Tuesday’s town meeting, which will take place at 7pm Tuesday, June 13th, in the senior center community room. The $52.3 million school budget and the $13.6 million town budget, would translate into a 6.25 percent tax increase in New Fairfield for 2023-24.

More details today in the case of a New Milford man who killed his own mother. Investigators now say 34 year old Eric Meagan drowned his mother during walk near Harrybrooke Park, He told police that he did it “to make the demons stop.” 56 year old Victoria Palmer died at a hospital after being pulled from the water along Still River Drive. Meagan was arraigned Tuesday on charges including murder. He remains in custody with bail set at $2 Million. The judge also issued a protective order, prohibiting him from contacting his father and siblings.

It’s now official… the date has been announced for the big 4th of July fireworks in Danbury. According to Mayor Dean Esposito, this year’s fireworks display will be on Saturday, June 24th at Danbury Town Park. Gates will open at 6:30 and the fireworks show will start at approximately 9:15. The Danbury Volunteer Fireman’s Council is hosting this year’s event.

Connecticut State Police along with local police are investigating what they are calling a “suspicious incident” that took place over the weekend in Southbury and left one person injured. Police responded just after 8am Saturday to 667 South Britain Road after getting reports that a person was injured. No details have been provided, but police say there is no threat to the public.
