(File photo) MANILA - The number of fresh coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections in the country jumped to 10,775 on Wednesday. In its Covid-19 bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) said the new cases brought the active case tally to 39,974 out of a total of 2,871,745 confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic. Wednesday's fresh cases are almost double from Tuesday's 5,434 new cases. The DOH also reported 605 new recoveries, raising the tally to 2,780,109 or 96.8 percent of the total case count. Out of the active cases, 33,866 are mild, 3,020 are moderate, 1,294 are asymptomatic, 319 are critical, and 1,512 are severe. "Of the 10,775 reported cases today (January 5), 10,688 (99 percent) occurred within the recent 14 days - December 23 - January 5, 2022," the DOH reported. The recovery count is now at 2,777,918, or 97.9 percent of the total 2,838,640. From 10,167 active infections on December 17, the total fell to 9,924 the following day and has not breached the 10,000-mark to date.
