geraldo: so, you have both governor romney and president obama trying to balance the fact that the election is eight, nine days away, with the, first of all, the perception that they have to be paying attention, they have to be the president literally has to be there in command as commander-in-chief, it s a very, very difficult balancing act for them and it comes at a time. i have the polls in front of me, erin, i d like to run over with you. first of all, we have the gallup daily tracking poll today that shows governor romney up by four points, 50-46. you have the rasmussen daily tracking poll that has governor romney up 50-47. the real clear politics average though is closer, that has 47.7 for governor and 46.8 for president obama, so, erin, real clear politics, you guys have this as a virtual dead heat? we do. in the national polls right now, it looks like mitt romney
bret: c ya, so i should put this is the average of the four latest polls inness. president obama with 49.5%. romney with 46.8%. romney did go to reno. trying apparently to chip away. we usually look at where people go. candidate misfinal days. clearly they are looking at something. romney s internal polling shows him in the race. maybe even slightly ahead. they would think they would be. we have the worst economy in the country. romney should be ahead here. but that democratic machine is formidable here. harry reid in 2010. allowed obama to win the state by 19 points in 2008. they are going up against that. he was not just in reno, he and paul ryan were in las vegas the previous day. they are here or putting on a show or they believe they can
interesting new polling. we know that president obama is making every effort to win over women voters. last night, the first lady stressed that theme. he believes that women are more than capable of making our own choices about our bodies and our health care. that is what my husband stands for. jon: as we mentioned last hour, the president s poll numbers among women have slipped quite a bit. there are other areas that might signal concern. his popularity overall slipping dramatically in the latest abc news washington post poll, falling three points since just before the republican convention. down seven points from a high in april. the narrowing gap in the head-to-head has now totally disappeared. the candidates are dead even in the latest politics. tied at 46.8% each. let s talk about it with charlie
