NEW DELHI: Former President Pranab Mukherjee has claimed in his memoir - The Presidential Years, 2012-2017 – that while Narendra Modi achieved the prime ministership, Congress stalwart Manmohan Singh was offered the same by the party and the latter didn t earn it.
The late former President wrote this in his memoir while making a comparison of the two PMs with whom he had worked in the past. Mukherjee made these comments in his memoir The Presidential Years, 2012-2017 which he wrote before his death last year. The book was released on Tuesday.

New Delhi: Late former president Pranab Mukherjee, in his memoir, The Presidential Years 2012-2017, has said that Congress failed to recognise the end of its charismatic leadership and thus lost the Lok Sabha Elections 2014. I feel the party failed to recognise the end of its charismatic leadership. Tall leaders like Pandit Nehru ensured that India, unlike Pakistan, survived and developed into a strong and stable nation. Sadly, such extraordinary leaders are not there anymore, reducing the establishment to a government of averages, he wrote in his memoir.
