whether they went to college or not. i want to talk about abortion, or on, because after the primary in new york on tuesday, there s a lot of talk about how much democrats should be messaging on choice going into november. i m speaking of course of pat ryan and new york s 19th district and his win their. largely on a pro-choice messaging platform. the president has been reluctant to talk about abortion in months and years past. there s even a website saying about whether or not joe biden has used the word abortion dot org. he is now talking about abortion. we talked about it tonight. is this something we re going to see of do you think abortion is a major plank of the campaigning that we re going to see the president do in the coming months? look, i think the issue of reproductive rights, the issue of abortion. the issue of other rights, hear the president talk about abortion tonight. you played a clip earlier, alex, he said the maga republicans, if they don t realize the force
belief that everyone, whether they went to college or not should have the opportunity for a better life. we invest in public schools, we invest in programs for community colleges, we invest in programs for trade schools, pell grants to help students get to college, we have a whole array of educational programs, of which this student loan plan is just one part of. when you take all of those plans together, look at what we re doing to promote education, look at what we re doing to give people economic opportunities, whether or not you have a college degree, the fact that we have the employment rate down to 3.5%, and not just the lowest in 50 years, you ve got an administration that is creating economic opportunity force all americans whether they went to college or not. i want to talk about abortion, ron, because after the primary in new york, on tuesday, there s a lot of talk about how much democrats should be messaging on choice, going into november. i will be speaking of course with
the pro democracy majority those voters have every reason to continue to be freaked the heck out that the republican party, one of the two major parties we have, simply cannot be intrusted with the keys to our constitutional republic. and the threat to democracy, to abortion rights, to bodily autonomy, that has changed the game. just ask democrat pat ryan, the winner of that special election in new york s 19th district. i think the messages when fundamental rights and freedoms are under attack, we have to stand up, we have to fight, we have to be strong and clear. and when you do that, people rally. i mean, the issues at stake, reproductive rights, abortion access, are fundamental rights that transcend partisanship. and we saw that in kansas, we saw it last night here in new york. i think we are going to continue to see it and we just saw polling that the number one concern for people in this country are threats to democracy. that is real, that is visceral. that is what i really cent
district. i mean, we just felt the ground shifting as we were going through the final weeks. i kept trying to explain that to people, what i was feeling on the ground. a lot of people said, oh, i don t know. i don t know. i m so proud that our community stood up at this moment. i think it is an existential moment for our democracy and my community delivered. one of the reasons people were watching, it is truly a swing district. it went for obama, then it went for trump, then it went back to biden. it was shown in the margin on tuesday night. just for national viewers out there, talk a little bit about what your district is like and why it was being watched so closely. i m bias. it is obviously the best district in the country. there you go. no, it s about 90 mile north of new york city. we re more rural, small businesses, farms, a lot of veterans, lot of working families. it s a community like a lot of america that really feels like we ve been left behind, especially coming out
it is dangerous, and it has to stop. congresswoman spanberger, we just spoke with representative elect pat ryan who won a true swing district here in new york state. he s on the ballot again and will be running in november, as you are on the ballot in november. he was talking about the significance in terms of voter energy having to do with the supreme court decision on roe v. wade, but also he mentioned the fact that when he s out, what he hears a lot of people talking about are two elements. trust in government and the fact that democracy seems to be in peril. i m wondering, in your travels around your district, what do you hear on those two issues if you hear anything at all about them? absolutely. i heard the interview with congressman elect ryan, and he is spot on. the deficit of trust, the cynicism that exists, i hear from voters the, well, you know,
