New Covid-19 infections drop to 890; active cases dip to 17 8K

(File photo) MANILA - The number of daily new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases once again dipped to below 1,000, with only 890 new infections reported on Wednesday. In its latest bulletin, the Department of Health said this is slightly higher than the lowest single-day new case tally of 849 recorded on November 16. This brought the active case tally to 17,864 lower than Tuesday's 18,721. Another 1,710 new recoveries, meanwhile, pushed its total tally to 2,763,114. Recoveries account for 97.7 percent of the total case count which has reached 2,828,660 since the start of the pandemic last year. About 53.4 percent of the 17,864 active cases are mild, 4.8 percent are asymptomatic, 6 percent are critical, 14.4 percent are severe, and 21.39 percent are moderate. In its 7 p.m. case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) noted that recoveries account for 96.7 percent of the total case count which has reached 2,772,491 since the start of the pandemic last year. In its Covid-19 bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) said this brought the total number of active cases to 50,152, lower than Tuesday's 53,642. Wednesday's figure of new cases is the lowest since September 11, when the country logged a peak of 26,303 new infections.
