The current wave of virus infection is so widespread that we must take action out of concern for the safety of our church, our community, and especially those who are most vulnerable in our midst, the church s senior pastor, Steve Scoggins, and the Board of Deacons said in a statement on the First Baptist website. The covid thing hit us and has hit several churches in the community so we decided to take a pause for about 30 days and reevaluate at the end of the 30 days to see what steps we need to take if we come back in person, Robert Bridges, the chairman of the Board of Deacons, said in an interview. We did have a pageant, we had three services one Friday night, one Saturday afternoon and one Sunday night. We had pretty good attendance in each one of them.
The Henderson County School Board approved the administrator appointment at Monday evening’s regular school board meeting.
Since 2016, Frye has supervised and provided support to administrators, counselors and teachers of all high schools and the Henderson County Virtual Public School through her role as director of high schools.
“I am humbled and honored to be given this new opportunity to serve the students and staff of Henderson County Public Schools. Growing up in a home where my father was a lifelong educator, I knew from an early age that there was no greater work than to help students achieve their goals and to support the staff who guide them,” Frye said in a news release.
Craven was re-elected to a second term on the board on Nov. 3 when voters also put Kathy Revis, Robert Bridges and Stacey Caskey on the board. The board voted unamimously for Craven as chair. After Jay Egolf nominated Holt as vice chair, Caskey nominated Revis, who declined. The board then elected Holt as chair.
Board members thanked the school community for its support after a 13-year-old boy shot a 12-year-old classmate in the leg in the gym where students gather before homeroom. The girl recovered and is back in school now.
“Everybody came together and nobody felt unsafe, that I’ve heard from, about the particular incident, Craven said. We will be looking further into what we can do as a board to make our students and families feel even safer.”
