Seasonal temps replace heat wave

People took to the South Yuba River over the weekend to cool down from the unseasonably hot temperatures. This week temperatures return to normal for the season, with highs in the upper 80s to mid-90s. People are reminded to pack out what they bring in, if they go to a local waterway to cool down. Photo: Elias Funez After several days with highs in the triple digits, temperatures in Nevada County will drop slightly to numbers typical of a normal summer season. According to meteorologist Hannah Chandler-Cooley of the National Weather Service, “normal” this time of year generally means upper 80s near lower elevations and 70s close to higher elevations.

July 4 fireworks in North State: festivals, pyrotechnic shows return

Celebrations start Thursday and continue through the Fourth of July holiday on Sunday. Here is a list of towns that host fireworks displays, parades and other festivities. Temperatures will soar throughout the North State this week, so planners warn guests to bring plenty of water and sun protection. Saturday will likely be the hottest day, National Weather Service meteorologist Hannah Chandler-Cooley said from Sacramento. How hot will it be during celebrations? Highs hover around 105 degrees in the Sacramento Valley, including Redding, Anderson and Los Molinos.  Highs in Weaverville will be around 100 degrees. Temperatures to the east in Burney and to the North in Mount Shasta should be in the mid-90s. There could be isolated thunderstorms in the area, so watch for fire danger from lightning strikes.
