Council hopeful no more homes in Warrington will need to evacuated tonight A SLIGHT improvement in weather could mean no more residents will need to evacuate their homes today, Thursday. Hundreds of people in Warrington have had to flee rising floodwater following record volumes of rain. Residents in Bewsey, Dallam, Longford, Lymm and Sankey Bridges have been worst affected. But large areas of Great Sankey, Penketh, Callands, Westbrook, Croft and Culcheth have also been hit. A spokesman for Warrington Borough Council said: Council officers continue to be on site at affected areas of Warrington, alongside the emergency services, environment agency and other partners.
Heavy rain throughout yesterday, Wednesday, caused havoc in the town with a number of flood warnings issued. No fewer than 80 residents living in Longshaw Street and surrounding areas in Dallam and Bewsey were helped to safety by emergency services. One resident living in Liverpool Road was also evacuated along with three people from Rhostherne Close, Sankey Bridges, and four people from Densham Avenue, Longford.

The force is now warning motorists across Cheshire who are making essential journeys to allow extra time and to take care on the roads as they may be flooded.
Flood warnings remain in force in St Helens due to Storm Christoph A NUMBER of flood warnings remain in place across St Helens following heavy rainfall from Storm Christoph. As of this morning, 10 flood warnings were still in place in the town, according to the Government’s flood information service. Warnings state that flooding is expected, with immediate action required, while flood alerts warn that flooding is possible and advise residents to be prepared. The 10 flood warning areas are listed as: Rainford Brook at Moss Bank, Rainford Brook at Rainford North, Rainford Brook at Rainford South, Sutton Brook at Moss Nook, Sutton Mill Brook at Sutton Leach, Wider area at risk from Sankey Brook at Dallam, Areas closest to Sankey Brook at Dallam, Areas closest to Sankey Brook at Sankey Bridges, Sankey Brook around areas of Gemini, Dallam, Bewsey, Longford, Orford, Great Sankey and Penketh, and Sankey Brook at Gemini.
