A STRABANE student is hoping her dreams of becoming a human rights barrister are a step closer to reality after she became the first young person from Ireland to be awarded a special scholarship from the Lord Mayor of the City of London.
Megan Edwards impressed the judges of the Mansion House Scholarship Scheme with her passion for human and civil rights. Over 180 scholarships have been awarded over the past 21 years, with scholars selected in 66 countries from across the world. But Megan is the first recipient from these shores to receive the esteemed award.

The 14-year-old pupil says she had a particular reason for anxiety during the spring lockdown last year. At the time my sister was pregnant and I was worried about trying to keep her safe, she says. It s a lot different this time - in a way, it s harder, but in another way it s just different, because now we have my nephew with us.
Niamh says that this time round, she is finding the pressure of schoolwork harder to deal with, and admits she has found it overwhelming at times.
But what has really helped has been the Blues Programme delivered by Action for Children, aimed at helping to support young people to focus on their wellbeing and mental health during lockdown.
