Five Rutherford County graduates will attend prestigious United States Air Force, Naval and Military Academy at West Point; four seniors presented with ROTC Distinguished Leader Graduate Awar May 11, 2021 at 03:30 pm by WGNS Lance Garcia was 10 years old when his father decided to enlist in the United States Air Force. The Central Magnet senior’s grandfather did the same in the 1940s. “They’ve been a big influence on me choosing the Air Force over any other branch,” said Garcia, who is one of five Rutherford County graduates enrolling in a prestigious military academy. Garcia and Stewarts Creek High senior Matthew Sanders will be attending the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Grace Beane will be attending the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, while Dalton Jenkins and Aryanna Cargle have enrolled in the United States Military Academy at West Point.

DVIDS - News - Tennessee National Guard supports joint water rescue exercise

9 SMYRNA, Tenn. – Members from the Tennessee National Guard, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, Nashville Fire Department, Rutherford County’s StormPoint Emergency Response team and others participated in a joint water rescue exercise near Smyrna s Volunteer Training Site, April 9. Tennessee’s Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team, a joint rescue crew with a Tennessee National Guard UH-60L Blackhawk helicopter and aircrew with rescue personnel from the Nashville Fire Department, practiced rescuing drowning victims in Stewarts Creek. “It’s critical that we all train together,” said Lt. Col. Jay Jackson, the military liaison for TEMA. “Doing this with people you’ve never met would be dangerous during a real world emergency, especially in hazardous conditions. That’s not when we should be working together for the first time.”

Mashpee to vote on Article 6 watershed nitrogen management plan in May

MASHPEE Three articles set to go before voters at town meeting next month will help bring the town’s long-time-coming comprehensive watershed nitrogen management plan to fruition if passed. The Board of Selectmen voted last week to approve and recommend articles for the upcoming spring session on May 3. “If you want clean water, and you care about the future of both the environment of the community and the economic fundamentals of the community, we need to start to address the water quality problems that are relevant in our waterways,” said Andrew Gottlieb, a member of the Mashpee Board of Selectmen and liaison on the Mashpee Sewer Commission.
