Speaking on the occasion, Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal who signed the agreement on behalf of Agriculture Production & Farmer’s Welfare Department Kashmir said that considering the challenging conditions of Ladakh areas both in terms of extreme weather conditions and road connectivity Department of Agriculture, JKHPMC and Dragon Super Mart Leh made this collaborative initiative in the areas of supply of fresh fruits and vegetables, spices, honey, rice and trout fish.
This initiative will have a symbolic impact on overall scenario, on one hand it will ensure the supply of fresh vegetables, fruits and other agriculture commodities to the people of UT of Ladakh especially during the period when surface connectivity to Ladakh remains affected and on the other hand it will contribute to the socio economics of the farmers of UT of Jammu and Kashmir, he said.

Director, Agriculture, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal, briefed Additional Secretary about the need of setting up of these centers which is being acknowledged by all in the society, as they can purchase organic as well as exotic vegetables from here at a reasonable price.
While elaborating on success rate of organic production in the valley, Director said that organic vegetables are becoming an integral part of regular food consumption, for which the department is taking various initiatives, such as providing space to the growers is a hand holding initiative. He added that for the first time since establishment of Organic Vegetable Market Lalmandi, black cumin (Kala Zeera), pulses and honey from Gurez Valley will be available for sale from today.
Srinagar: Director Agriculture Production & Farmer’s Welfare Department, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today held an interactive meeting with members of J&K Advisory Board for Development of Kisans (JKABDK) to work out a professional marketing platform for the cash crops grown in Kashmir valley.
The meeting was attended by Managing Director JK Horticulture Produce & Marketing Corporation (JKHPMC), Er. Shafat Sultan; Secretary JKABDK, Abdul Hamid Wani, Joint Directors Agriculture Department, Chief Agriculture Officers, members of JKABDK and other concerned.
At the outset of this meeting, Secretary JKABDK, Abdul Hamid Wani gave the brief introduction about the importance of the Board.
While interacting with the Board Members, Director Agriculture stated that the government aspires to see the farmers prosperous and self-reliant as the farmers are the main stakeholders in contributing GDP of the region and the government is committed to double farmers’ income by 2022.

While starting this initiative, JKHPMC procured 60 quintals of potato from Tulail Bandipora and in a visit to organic vegetable cluster Patal Bagh Pulwama where 1200 kanals have been brought under cultivation of Peas and JKHPMC is ready to facilitate the marketing of the produce from the said area.
During the visit, the Director said this initiative is going to eliminate the exploitation of farmers by mediators and commission agents and will fetch more income for their produce which is the ultimate goal of the Department.
He said the department along with JKHPMC is trying to make this entire process easy, farmer friendly and more attractive so that more and more farmers get benefited by the this exercise.
