During a May 11 meeting, the Board of Selectmen unanimously authorized Wareham Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood to submit two statements of interest to the Massachusetts School Building Authority.
Submitting a statement of interest is “the critical first step” in applying to grants for school building repairs, according to the state organization. The statement of interest informs the Massachusetts School Building Authority “about deficiencies that may exist in a local school facility and how those deficiencies inhibit the delivery of the district’s educational program.”

Wareham High’s DECA club has planned its upcoming events with covid-19 safety in mind. Wareham’s DECA club aims to educate students who will become leaders or entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management by applying skills learned in the classroom to real-world business scenarios.
DECA will host an outdoor fashion show on Thursday, May 13 and a tailgate dinner and auction fundraiser on May 23.
Fashion show
The fashion show DECA’s second annual will be held in front of Wareham High School at 4 p.m. The event is open to the public.
The annual fashion show is a collaboration between DECA club, the high school’s project management business class and the fashion marketing business class. The project management class focuses on event planning for the fashion show, while the fashion marketing class focuses on fashion design and marketing.

A small, distanced crowd gathered in the parking lot by the high school’s softball field on Saturday night for the premier of a new play written and directed by two Wareham High School students.
James Fitzgerald and Colby Flanigan wrote “She’s Dead!” over the past year or so, and edited the script with help from various friends and teachers. They then directed the play while each appearing in at least one role.

The Town Meeting scheduled for May 8 has been postponed to June 12 because there is a chance of rain on Saturday.
Town Moderator Claire Smith said that she agonized over the decision, but ultimately decided that, with the chance of rain, it was best to cancel. Because of the irrigation system under Spillane Field, it isn’t possible to put tents up on the field.
Smith, Town Counsel Richard Bowen, and Town Clerk Michele Bissonnette all have various commitments that made rescheduling the Town Meeting for another Saturday in May impossible, and the first Saturday in June will be graduation day for Wareham’s High School seniors.

The Wareham Viking Theatre Company will perform “She’s Dead,” a murder mystery play written and directed by students James Fitzgerald and Colby Flanigan at 6:30 p.m. on May 8 at the Wareham High School softball field.
Tickets are available to the show, and those who can’t attend in person can purchase a recording of the show a week after its debut.
The show, described as a dark comedy, is rated PG-13 for strong language, comic violence, themes of death and grieving, the use of prop weapons, and simulated smoking.
The location may change to the football field, but those attending are asked to bring chairs to sit on for a performance at the softball field.
