JOHANNESBURG - Metro police officers are in Soweto on Monday morning where taxi drivers are staging a protest.
It’s not yet clear what sparked the demonstration.

“Taxi drivers are protesting at the moment along Klipspruit Valley Road by Khumalo Street in Orlando West Soweto. Motorists are advised to use Chris Hani Road or to drive through Meadowlands as an alternative route as officers are assisting with the diverting of traffic,” said JMPD s Wayne Minaar.

TRUCK DRIVER CAUSES HAVOC
Reckless Truck driver causes multiple collision.
According to JMPD spokesman Wayne Minaar the accident happened on Saturday behind flora clinic on the down hill of William Nicol Street.
Minnaar said the truck that caused an accident was transporting chrome from Rustenburg to City Deep. The truck collided into rear of van and SUV vehicle which were both stationary at a traffic light .The driver of the van was seriously injured and was airlifted to Milpark Hospital, he said.
He added that the passenger of the van was also serious and was transported to Flora clinic .
Minnaar said the driver of the SUV was only slightly injured.

The Unity Fellowship Church in Soweto, whose church service last week ended in blood and tears as police dispersed a 2,000-strong gathering, has promised to stick to Covid-19 regulations this coming Sunday.
Church director Theophilus Mukhuba, who described the action of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) as harassment, told Sunday Times Daily he still believed their congregants did nothing wrong.
