LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 8, 2021) – University of Wyoming freshman Marcus Williams was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year by media covering the conference on Monday. He also earned Third-Team All-Mountain West honors. Junior Hunter Maldonado was named Honorable Mention All-MW. The all-conference awards as voted by the head coaches will be announced Tuesday.
Williams is the fourth Cowboy in school history to be named Freshman of the Year and the third Poke to do so in the Mountain West. The last was Afam Muojeke in 2009 with Jay Straight earning it in 2002. In 1995, LaDrell Whitehead was named Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.
Pokes catch fire from deep, take down UNLV, 80-69

LARAMIE The Wyoming Cowboys ended the regular season in style late Saturday night, shooting a season-high 55.1 percent (27-for-49) from the floor and made 10-of-20 from 3-point range on their way to an 80-69 victory over UNLV.
Both teams shot the ball well on the night as UNLV hit 54 percent (27-for-50) of its shots, but went just 3-of-13 (23 percent) from 3-point range.
UNLV led only once in the game, at 3-2 just over a minute into the game, and committed 17 turnovers, leading to 16 Cowboy points.

Neemias Queta put his back to the basket and dribbled the ball three times with his left hand.
It was all a set up.
His head cocked to the right, it appeared the 7-footer was blanketed by
Graham Ike and looking for a teammate to cut through the lane for a pass. That wasn t it at all.

That sweet power move gave the Aggies a seven-point lead. It got even worse for the visitors, as Utah State pulled away for the 72-59 victory, keeping its NCAA Tournament dreams alive.
