Booze and drugs crackdown in popular parks

GET-TOUGH council bosses are set to crack down on booze and drug-fuelled antisocial behaviour in popular public parks. Maldon District Council is appealing for feedback on proposals to make open spaces safer for everyone to enjoy. The council wants to hear from residents and visitors in a bid to make sure that park users enjoy alcohol responsibly and don’t behave in a way that causes a nuisance to others. The proposal would also ban the possession or use of illegal drugs or psychoactive substances – so-called nitrous oxide or nos cannisters. The council has received complaints of this type of antisocial behaviour in open spaces and now wants to introduce a public space protection order, or PSPO, for certain parts of Maldon and Burnham.
