GET-TOUGH council bosses are set to crack down on booze and drug-fuelled antisocial behaviour in popular public parks. Maldon District Council is appealing for feedback on proposals to make open spaces safer for everyone to enjoy. The council wants to hear from residents and visitors in a bid to make sure that park users enjoy alcohol responsibly and don’t behave in a way that causes a nuisance to others. The proposal would also ban the possession or use of illegal drugs or psychoactive substances – so-called nitrous oxide or nos cannisters. The council has received complaints of this type of antisocial behaviour in open spaces and now wants to introduce a public space protection order, or PSPO, for certain parts of Maldon and Burnham.
A GROUP of volunteers responsible for vaccinating thousands of Maldon residents from Covid have celebrated 100 hours of service. The group at the Maldon vaccination centre at the council offices, managed by Linda Dutaut of Maldon and District CVS, were praised for the jab rollout. The 17 who passed the 100-hour mark were presented with a certificate and letter of thanks from project leader Samantha Young, head of operations at Longfield Medical Centre. The tasks include guiding people in from the car park, sanitising the surfaces, administering the vaccine, and staying in the rest areas to help residents after their jab. Volunteer Julie Ovenden said it was a great experience.
