DANVILLE, Pa. The CDC said people living in areas with substantial or high transmission rates of COVID-19 should once again mask up when they are indoors even if they are vaccinated.

In this episode of On The Front Foot, Bryan Waddle and Jeremy Coney dissect the drawn first test between the Black Caps and England at Lord s, led by a double hundred on debut by Devon Conway, and a six-wicket haul from Tim Southee. “My biggest recall was when I got out there, we were right in the s..t.” Lance Cairns was spot on. New Zealand were being smoked by Australia in the second final of the Benson and Hedges World Series Cup on February 13, 1983. Enter Cairns – barrel-chested, tight shirt, silver medallion and already much-admired by NZ cricket fans because of his ability to hit the ball prodigious distances, which stole the spotlight from his core role as a world-class inswinging bowler and supporting cast member for Richard Hadlee. But what happened late in the day in Melbourne catapulted Cairns into a Kiwi cult hero and made most Kiwis forget that their side had still received a towelling from our trans-Tasman rivals.

The Severn Bridge (Local politicians row over renaming of Severn Bridge, 22 December) replaced the Aust Ferry in 1966. As Bob Dylan was one of the last people to make the crossing – the No Direction Home album cover shows him standing near the ticket office – why not rename the bridge after Dylan?
