Developer plans housing for homeless in Oceanside

OCEANSIDE  In what’s being called the first of its kind for coastal North County, a proposed Oceanside apartment complex could provide permanent homes and services for dozens of homeless people with mental health issues, youths transitioning out of foster care and veterans facing homelessness. National Community Renaissance and San Diego Community Housing Foundation are proposing to build the 60-unit Greenbrier Village Apartments on a .71-acre vacant lot on the west side of Greenbrier Drive between Apple Street and Oceanside Boulevard just east of Interstate 5. The Oceanside Housing Commission supported the project June 1 and unanimously agreed to recommend it to the City Council, where it is headed June 16.

Gadsden, Anniston area to survey homeless populations Wednesday

An effort will be underway Wednesday to take a count of homeless individuals and families in the Gadsden and Anniston areas, as the Homeless Coalition of Northeast Alabama conducts its Point in Time survey. If you know of a homeless person or family, or if you are homeless, you are asked to contact Renee’ Baker at 256-312-5589 or rbacker@cityofgadsden.com, or Lori Floyd at 256-238-6231 or lori.floyd@the-right-place.org. Baker, the City of Gadsden s Community Development Planner, is the chair of HCNEA. HCNEA and its member agencies gather data about homeless people in the area during a 24-hour period each January, Baker said in a press release. This 24-hour “Point in Time” shows the number of individuals and families who are homeless on any given night.
