By John Heinis/Hudson County View “Ending veteran homelessness has been a top priority for the Trump Administration since day one,” HUD Secretary Ben Carson said in a statement. “We have an obligation to ensure that our nation’s veterans, who have given so much for our country are not left out on the streets. They fought for us, now it’s time for us to fight for them.” Specifically, the JCHA received $98,522 from the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program. In the HUD-VASH program, VA Medical Centers (VAMCs) assess veterans experiencing homelessness before referring them to local housing agencies for these vouchers.
