Beer and cider week reveals bumper schedule across town

Bolton brewery and Carrs pasties team up to make Pastie Barm ale

A BOLTON brewery and a popular bakery have teamed up to create a unique drink set to hit the bar this week. Northern Monkey, based in Nelson Square and Chorley Street, has teamed up with the Bolton-based bakery, Carrs Pasties, to brew their very own pale ale. The idea for the drink has come from Northern Monkey’s love of the famous pastie barm, which they believe is truly local to Bolton. Northern Monkey is ran by friends Ryan Bailey and Liam Convey, with this unique drop the latest collaboration over what has been a busy lockdown of brewing for the pair.

New beer festival from Bolton brewery coming this summer

A POPULAR Bolton brewery is set to host its first beer festival in July. ‘Monkey in the Woods’ by Northern Monkey, which runs a bar in Nelson Square, Bolton, is to take place on July 3 as part of Bolton’s Beer and Cider week. The festival is to be hosted at Barrow Bridge car park, off Barrow Bridge Road, with half the tickets already sold for the event. A range of locally brewed beers, ciders and Bolton gin will be sold at the event, with live music and food also on offer. Thirty per cent of the proceeds from the event will be donated to The Woodlands Trust, Smithills Estate, to help them to continue preserving and maintaining the estate for years to come.

Northern Monkey plans to open up new brewery

A NEW tap room could open in Bolton as popular microbrewery sets its sights on expansion. Northern Monkey Brew Co has applied to open a new brewery just on the outskirts of the town centre with their popular Nelson Square bar continue to serve customers. If approved, a new premises licence would see them transfer and expand much of their brewery assets to a unit in Chorley Street which would focus mostly on the brewery side of the business. And it would be open as a tap room from Friday to Sunday, co-founder Ryan Bailey said. Ryan added that he and business partner Liam Convey had been thinking of ways to grow their business over lockdown, as bars and pubs were forced to close because of restrictions.
