Names Released Of Drivers Involved In Fatal July 2nd Crash Outside Veneta

Credit Lucian Alexe / Unsplash    Oregon State Police say Veneta resident Kathleen Bauchereau’s small SUV failed to stop for the stop sign at Highway 126 and Husted Road, striking a pickup truck and trailer operated by another Veneta resident, Amado Hernandez-Vernegas.   The impact forced the pickup into the other lane of 126, where it collided with a large SUV driven by Randy Holcomb of Eugene. Hernandez-Vernegas and his unidentified passenger both died from their injuries. Bauchereau, Holcomb, and Holcomb’s unidentified passenger were all taken to Riverbend Hospital.  At least one of them is reportedly in critical condition. Copyright 2021, KLCC.

Lakewood Approves Chautauqua Lake MOU | News, Sports, Jobs

nholland@post-journal.com LAKEWOOD The Lakewood Village Board met Monday and approved the Memorandum of Understanding in regards to Chautauqua Lake. The MOU was unveiled May 5 by County Executive PJ Wendel in a press conference in Mayville. The MOU is an update to the 2019 Chautauqua Lake agreement, which expired at the end of April. The purpose of the MOU is for the numerous Chautauqua Lake stakeholders to work together to keep Chautauqua Lake economically and ecologically healthy. As was the case with the MOA, the MOU will have a two-year term. The MOU was sent to the village board prior to Monday’s regular meeting, and the board unanimously agreed for Mayor Randy Holcomb to sign and execute the MOU.

P-J file photo LAKEWOOD The YMCA Firecracker Run will return to the village on July 3, which is good news following a string of canceled events including the Fourth of July fireworks celebration. The Lakewood Village Board approved the 10K and 2-mile run at a regular meeting this week, and also authorized the restaurant Group Ther-Happy to hold live music performances on Sundays throughout the summer. These developments are a welcome return to regular summer activities in the wake of so many COVID-19 restrictions, and Lakewood residents will also have the added benefit of a newly-refurbished-and-updated Chautauqua Avenue by the end of the summer thanks to the ongoing greenstreet retrofit project.

Lakewood Officially Cancels Summerfest Event | News, Sports, Jobs

P-J photo by Jay Young LAKEWOOD Village residents will not be able to enjoy Summerfest or typical Fourth of July celebrations this year, which were officially canceled by the village board at a meeting Monday. Last week, Lakewood Mayor Randy Holcomb announced that the village would not be holding its Independence Day fireworks celebration due to COVID-19. On Monday, the board discussed how the pandemic might impact summer activities at Hartley Park, in particular the beach.

Construction To Begin On Lakewood Retrofit Project | News, Sports, Jobs

LAKEWOOD The Chautauqua Avenue Green Street Retrofit project is set to begin construction this month. The village of Lakewood received a grant from the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation via the Green Innovation Grant Program and Clean Water State Revolving Fund in 2018 that has allowed it to undertake the project. This project is the result of a study published in 2018 by the village of Lakewood and town of Busti Storm Water Management Engineering Study. Although the project is aimed at redirecting the silt flow from storm water, byproducts of this product include the increased health of Chautauqua Lake and a better-looking village, officials said.
