With a little over six weeks left in the school year, Regina’s Catholic school division is rolling out rapid testing for COVID-19 in its four high schools.
In a letter sent to parents, the division announced rapid tests would be available to high school students, their families and staff at the schools Monday to Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The letter makes clear that the tests are for screening purposes only for people who don’t have symptoms.
According to Twylla West, communications and media co-ordinator with the Regina Catholic School Division, most students in the high schools are between 14 and 17 and so can give verbal consent to testing.

Regina’s Public and Catholic School Divisions are going to review their school resource officer program with the Regina Police Service.
The review will be conducted by a third party organization, it is unclear at this time how residents will be able to voice their opinion on the matter, but both school divisions have made it clear that will be a priority when the review comes to fruition during the next school year.
Public schools spokesperson Terry Lazarou says the time was right to conduct this review.

Cases of COVID-19 have been identified at three more Regina schools.
The Regina Catholic School Division said one case had been confirmed at each of St. Augustine Community School and St. Catherine Community School.
“We are working closely with Public Health staff to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students,” the division said in a media release. “We remind everyone entering schools to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.”
As well, Regina Public Schools reported a case at Judge Bryant School.
The schools remain open.
Cases have been reported at 11 Regina schools since students in the city’s two largest school divisions returned to class May 3 after more than a month or online instruction.
