VICTORY: Worcester MP Robin Walker and James Stanley (right) who won in Gorse Hill and Warndon THE CONSERVATIVES have increased their majority on Worcestershire County Council after a disastrous day for Labour which saw the party lose six seats including its leader. It was a successful day for the Conservatives following Thursday’s election with the party snatching seats from Labour in Worcester, Redditch and Bromsgrove as well as claiming victory against a number of independent candidates on the 57-seat council. The Conservatives increased their majority by five claiming 45 seats in total. Labour dropped to three after losing six seats, the Lib Dems gained a seat overall winning four in total which now makes them the official opposition, the Greens gained a seat pushing them up to three seats and there were also two independent candidates elected.

Petition and meeting set up over Evesham College cutbacks

MORE than 500 people have signed a petition as part of the latest plan to fight cuts to courses at Evesham College. Support has been garnered from Councillor Robin Lunn, leader of the Labour Group on Worcestershire County Council, with residents vehement in their opposition set to meet in conjunction with petition organisers University College Union (UCU) via Microsoft Teams tonight (Tuesday, 6pm). Hair and beauty, engineering, construction, motor vehicle and digital courses will run from Evesham but access to higher education – courses designed to prepare adults to progress to the next level of education, including university study – and supported learning is set to be transferred to Pershore seven miles away.

Worcestershire councillors pay tribute to former colleague Peter Pinfield

Worcestershire councillors remembered Mr Pinfield at a full council meeting last Thursday (February 18). The council s Labour group leader Robin Lunn said Mr Pinfield, who was himself leader in the late 90s and early 00s, had taken him under his wing when he first became a county councillor. Peter was far more than the positions he occupied, Cllr Lunn said. He was Mr Droitwich. He was genuinely a very popular figure and fought passionately for the interests of those he represented. He was a kind man and generous with his time. Peter will be remembered not for the positions he held and the elections he won but for being a caring, dedicated, enthusiastic public servant who enhanced so many people s lives.
