A local couple hopes to transform an undeveloped industrial site off U.S. 1 into a destination. Army veterans Brad and Jessica Halling of Rickhouse Properties presented a conceptual development plan for a proposed distillery campus to the Southern Pines Town Council on Tuesday.
âOur intention is to create an inclusive environment,â said Jessica Halling, noting they want to use the companyâs brand to recognize and honor extraordinary service in addition to creating a gathering place that will appeal to a diverse clientele. âWe are really trying to strike a beautiful balance.â
Halling is a retired JAG officer who recently joined the Moore County Bar Association. Her husband, Brad, spent the majority of his army career serving in the Special Forces. The image of a feather which represents a âfallen eagle,â on the battlefield will be prominently displayed on the front facade of the proposed facility and other branded items, including bottle labels.

Fort Bragg s overall rate of crimes per 100,000 soldiers was 47% lower than at other installations across the country falling under the U.S. Army Forces Command, and was 18% lower than the Army as a whole, Gassaway said during the meeting hosted virtually last month.
The Rev. Brian Thompson and his family were riding in his black Cadillac Escalade about eight years ago when a siren interrupted their Sunday afternoon drive.
Thompson, the pastor at Simon Temple AME Zion Church on Yadkin Road, had finished three church services that morning. The family had just stopped for ice cream and were headed down McPherson Church Road when the patrol car with two white police officers pulled him over.
The officers approached on each side of the SUV with their hands on their guns, Thompson said.
“I was looking back over my shoulder (in the mirror),” he said, “My children were scared. My wife was scared. I didn’t know what was going to happen at that point.
