A Yucca Valley man was arrested Wednesday (May 5) night, accused of assault with a deadly weapon. Around 8:15 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies received a call of a domestic dispute at a residence in the 58400 block of Diadem Road in Yucca Valley. After investigation, Sheriff’s deputies reported that Richard Avila, 52, was involved in a verbal altercation at the residence after drinking all day and punched a female victim twice, causing her to fall both times. Richard Avila was arrested for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon and for violating the conditions of his post-release community supervision, and was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with his total bail set at $50,000.
A Yucca Valley man was arrested Wednesday following reports of a man with a gun at Copper Mountain College in Joshua Tree. According to the Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to the college at 12:43 p.m. for a report of a man with a gun in the student center. The college immediately imposed lock-down procedures on the campus. Deputies found Joshua Goldstein, 34, sitting on a bench in the 300 building interior quad area. He was taken into custody without incident. After a security check of the campus by deputies, the college’s lock-down was lifted. No firearm was located during the search. Joshua Goldstein was arrested for investigation of making criminal threats, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with this bail set at $50,000.

A Costa Mesa man who said he was looking for a place to sleep crashed his vehicle into the Joshua Tree court house Sunday. According to the California Highway Patrol, Warren Baugh, 33, intentionally drove his silver Ford Freestyle into the front door of the court house sometime Sunday. He then left his car there and walked over to the adjacent CHP office, where he was found at 5:45 a.m. Sunday morning. Other than saying he was looking for a place to sleep, Baugh refused to answer any questions about why he drove into the court house. Warren Baugh was arrested for investigation of felony vandalism, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $25,000. A Yucca Valley man was arrested Sunday (April 11) morning, accused of felony spouse abuse. Deputies were called the Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree about 3 a.m. for a report that Dennis Salmon, 32, physically assaulted a woman. According to Sheriff’s logs, the victim confronted Salmon about strange links on his phone and they got into an argument. As the argument continued, Salmon shoved the victim into a chair. When the victim said that she wanted to leave, Salmon released his hold on the victim while the argument continued. The victim soon noticed blood coming from her head and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The victim sustained a tear to her right ear, resulting in 10 stitches. Subsequently, Dennis Salmon was contacted and arrested for suspicion of mayhem and corporal injury to a spouse, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $100,000.
