TWO MEN ARRESTED AFTER THEY WERE FOUND WITH A BOMB

Two Joshua Tree men were arrested, after they were found with an explosive device. About 4 a.m. Monday (February 15), deputies contacted David Smith, 38, near El Reposo and Chollita Avenue in Joshua Tree, where they found that he had a pipe bomb. Deputies contacted the Sheriff’s Arson and Bomb unit, which determined the pipe bomb was explosive; the bomb squad then detonated it in a safe area. David Smith was arrested Monday morning for investigation of being in possession of an explosive device, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $25,000. During a follow-up investigation, deputies learned that Smith had obtained the pipe bomb from Randall Piearcy, 35. A search warrant was served about 8 p.m. Wednesday (February 17) at Piearcy’s home in the 61500 block of Woodward Drive in Joshua Tree. AN ARREST FOR STRONG-ARM ROBBERY AT WAL-MART

A Covina man was arrested Sunday (February 14) after he reportedly threatened a Walmart clerk who was trying to stop him from shoplifting. Deputies say that about 3:15 p.m., Gregory Pelle, 36, put multiple items in a shopping cart and then went to the self-check-out counter at the Yucca Valley Walmart. Pelle allegedly put a jacket and sweater in bags and paid only for candy bars and a drink. When Pelle tried to leave the store with the unpaid-for merchandise, an employee grabbed the shopping cart and said Pelle was not allowed to take the items with him. Pelle grabbed the shopping bags, threatened the employee, and left the store. Deputies located Pelle shortly afterwards; Pelle was wearing the stolen sweater and carrying a bag with more stolen items in it. Gregory Pelle was arrested on suspicion of strong-arm robbery, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $100,000.

TWO TWENTYNINE PALMS MEN ARRESTED IN SEPARATE DUI INCIDENTS

Two Twentynine Palms men were recently arrested in separate incidents, accused of driving under the influence, and other charges. About 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, deputies made a traffic stop on a vehicle near Cactus Drive and Cholla Avenue in Twentynine Palms. Driving the vehicle was Troy Foster, 49. Believed that Foster was driving under the influence, Deputies performed a field sobriety test and determined that he was driving while impaired. Troy Foster was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of drugs, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, cited, and released. Then about 1 p.m. Thursday, deputies made a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Travis Hunt, 21, near Baseline Road and Bedouin Avenue in Twentynine Palms. Deputies determined that Hunt was driving under the influence of drugs. Hunt had multiple warrants for his arrest. Deputies also found drug paraphernalia inside his vehicle. WONDER VALLEY MAN ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTED MURDER

A Wonder Valley man was arrested Thursday, accused of attempted murder. About 1:30 a.m., deputies were called to the 80100 block of Mesa Drive in Wonder Valley for an assault with a knife. When deputies arrived, they determined that Jason Halcomb, 30, had knifed the victim numerous times before fleeing the scene. Deputies obtained a search warrant and looked for Halcomb during the night. About 9:40 a.m. Thursday, Jason Halcomb was located and arrested for attempted murder, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, and is being held without bail. Share this:
