Dyckman Street Restaurants Receive 33 Heaters For Outdoor Dining

(Photo credit: Emily Andrews for Rockwell Group) INWOOD, NY Dyckman Street just got some help in the quest for comfortable outdoor dining despite the increasingly cold temperatures. The busy street in Inwood recently received 33 heaters for restaurants to use in their outdoor dining setups. The warming devices are part of an initiative from the design and architecture firm Rockwell Group to place heaters in community spaces around New York City. Subscribe We re thrilled to add our block of restaurants to the growing list of places where New Yorkers can now more comfortably dine and safely gather outdoor this winter, said Susana Osorio, owner of Mamasushi and Mamajuana Cafe on Dyckman Street, in a news release. With the installation of these heaters, we ll be able to stay open, serve the local community and survive the colder months.

The Light Up Chinatown project began as an idea by 46 Mott Street Bakery manager, Patrick Mock, when he noticed how dark the block was at night, according to Time Out. With help coming from City Council District 1 candidate Jenny Low, Chung Seto of United Democratic Organization (UDO), Joanne Kwong of Pearl River Mart and the Send Chinatown Love movement, Mock was able to turn his dream of lighting up his community into reality.

Debra L Rothenberg/Shutterstock A city pandemic loan program intended to help out small businesses in lower-income neighborhoods and communities of color has left out a swath of Manhattan s Chinatown. In late November, the city s Department of Small Business Services launched a $35 million low-to-moderate income storefront loan program. Small businesses in certain neighborhoods could receive up to $100,000 in a zero-interest loan. The funds would provide loans for at least 350 businesses across the city, depending on the size of loans allocated.
