AMHERST When the Amherst League of Women Voters formed a task force compiling data about racial equity in town for employment, housing, health, policing and government, its members anticipated identifying trends so the organization could promote social justice goals for the community.
Instead, despite accessing more than a dozen national, state, regional and local information sources on those issues, the task force learned that getting specifics of how well Amherst is promoting and achieving equity is nearly impossible, and that the college student population overwhelms the demographic statistics.

I did it. I signed up get the vaccine. I followed the directions and went on line at 11 a.m. as requested. I can see why there are issues. The sign-up required a photo or download of the insurance card. Dismay, I don’t know how to download. I have never done it. Fortunately , one could take a photo.
For those who register over the phone, I assume a photo would not be required. I have friends in other states where it took hours just to connect.
I will still wear my mask, keep my distance and use a lot of hand lotion with all the hand washing.

Another indoor garden report: Over a year ago, a friend gave me an amaryllis plant in a red wax ball that didn’t require watering. Two shoots came up and bloomed from that plant. After the shoots died down another appeared, about an inch high, and has been that size in that ball throughout 2020. A few weeks ago, I peeled off the red coating and put the ball in water. I now have two new green shoots. I will let you know what happens.
Rob Kushner of Amherst sent me an email saying he has been cleaning files and found one pertaining to me. He was a member of the Select Board and announced at a meeting that he wouldn’t be up for reelection because he had to be in Philadelphia dealing with family matters. Before the announcement, he shared cookies with the board that I had made and given him because he was a runner-up in the post card contest. What a great trip down memory lane!
