Tony Evers and two Madison lawmakers reintroduced legislation to address statewide PFAS contamination on Wednesday. The CLEAR Act put forth by Evers, State Sen. Melissa Agard (D-Madison) and State Rep. Samba Baldeh (D-Madison) would have the state get to work to address statewide PFAS contamination and includes several provisions that are in Evers’ Badger Bounceback agenda, such as funding new positions at the DNR specific to the implementation of a PFAS action plan; creating the PFAS municipal grant program for testing and remediation efforts; and funding statewide monitoring and testing initiatives.

MADISON, Wis. As the weather continues to warm, local safety officials are asking residents to use extra caution if they venture out onto the ice. Officials with Dane County Sheriff’s Office Marine and Trail Enforcement said any residents planning to go ice fishing or partake in other winter sports should make sure they have the appropriate flotation and safety equipment. “Above all, remember, the ice is never 100% safe,” officials said in a news release. Kites On Mendota has been officially canceled this weekend due to inclement weather in the forecast. The Clean Lakes Alliance made the announcement Tuesday night. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. The annual fundraiser put on by the nonprofit organization was to feature more than two dozen kites, but the event was called off due to the upcoming extreme cold weather. As temperatures drop and lakes begin to freeze, Dane County law enforcement officials are reminding the public about some safety requirements for vehicles driven on ice-covered bodies of water. According to Dane County Sheriff’s Office Marine and Trail Enforcement, flotation inspections and certificates are no longer required to use a vehicle on frozen Dane County lakes, but other safety measures are still in place. All vehicles less than 850 pounds used on the frozen waters of lakes Mendota, Monona and Wingra must be equipped with flotation devices.
