UPDATE from Clean Lakes Alliance: Unfortunately, with recent weather alerts warning about inclement weather due to extremely cold temperatures, Kites On Mendota is officially canceled. (Saturday and Sunday, February 6th & 7th). We are very thankful to our partners and supporters: The Edgewater, Wisconsin Union, EZ Office Products, Wisconsin Kiters Club, and Seven Hills Skydiving Club. Enough room for social distancing is not a problem when your venue is a frozen Lake Mendota. It s like, hey, where did this big treeless park come from? Kites on Mendota will feature 20 large show kites, plus skydivers with colorful parachutes from the Seven Hills Skydiving Club will be making ice landings throughout the day on Saturday. Kites On Mendota has been officially canceled this weekend due to inclement weather in the forecast. The Clean Lakes Alliance made the announcement Tuesday night. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. The annual fundraiser put on by the nonprofit organization was to feature more than two dozen kites, but the event was called off due to the upcoming extreme cold weather. Officials say they’re providing ways for those to follow public health guidance related to COVID-19. The Wisconsin Union team invites the whole community to experience the Carnival. Some events and activities require pre-registration and have limited capacities. This season, some community favorites will return with changes to ensure the health and safety of patrons in light of COVID-19.
