Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday asked the officers to initiate talks with Bharat Biotech to get 50% of its total production of Covaxin doses in the Pune plant to be supplied to Maharashtra while the balance will go to the Centre.
Biovet Pvt Ltd, an associate firm of Bharat Biotech, is confident of making a plant at Manjari in Pune fully functional for vaccine production by August- end. Pune divisional commissioner Saurabh Rao and district collector Rajesh Deshmukh visited the plant on Wednesday.

Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar broke his silence over the tiff between the Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil and Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte on delays 0in clearing files pertaining to the Water Resources Department. He categorically denied any such controversy between the two saying that it is a part of the administration and he and Patil have been in the government for many years.
Even as the Maharashtra government on Sunday announced a weekend lockdown and other restrictions to curb the surge in COVID-19 cases, the by-election to Pandharpur-Mangalvedha Assembly constituency will be held as per its schedule later this month, state Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said. The bypoll, necessitated by NCP MLA Bharat Bhalke s death last year, is scheduled to be held on April 17, which is a Saturday. On Sunday evening, the state government said that lockdown will come into effect from 8 pm on Friday to 7 am on Monday. Apart from that, strict restrictions will be in place from Monday 8 pm onwards.

Speaking at a programme in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pawar said the police force in the state had done a commendable job during the coronavirus outbreak and the subsequent lockdown.
