CARLSBAD Pacific Ridge School hosts fashion show Pacific Ridge School’s service learning group A Million Knots aims to empower women through education.
Brett Pursley is a senior volleyball player at Poway High School, who just recently committed to play D1 volleyball next year for UCSD.
After a foot growth spurt throughout his high school career, Brett is ready to take his talents to the next level, while also leaving behind the stuff he has learned with the next generation of Titans volleyball players.
He also hopes to become a physical therapist after suffering a dislocated knee his sophomore year, so that he can help others heal injuries and get to what they want to accomplish in their sports.

A Poway Boy Scout is following in his family’s footsteps by obtaining his Eagle Award.
Spencer Wurtz, a Poway High School sophomore, recently held his Eagle Court of Honor in a private ceremony in a friend’s backyard. The 16-year-old is a member of Scouts BSA Troop 603 under Scout Master Gary Leeson.
Wurtz, the son of Jeff and Dianne Wurtz, said he is a third-generation recipient of the Eagle Award. Scouting is a family tradition, with his great-grandfather, grandfather, two uncles and older brother all earning the award. He has been in Scouting for about eight years, starting as a Cub Scout when he was 8 years old. He has earned 21 merit badges during his time in Scouting, as well as the BSA Youth Religious Knot Award.

A 19-year-old driver was jailed Tuesday, charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, in a crash that killed a father and teenage son as the pair left baseball practice at Poway High School earlier this year.
Donald Lee Farmer Jr. is also accused of driving under the influence of drugs causing injury and driving without a license, a misdemeanor, according to the complaint filed by prosecutors. The court document does not indicate what sort of drug.
Farmer was taken into custody and pleaded not guilty to the two felonies and misdemeanor charge during his arraignment in San Diego Superior Court. He was ordered jailed in lieu of $250,000 bail and is due back in court May 18 for a bail review. His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A 19-year-old was arrested today for allegedly being intoxicated and driving recklessly last winter when his car broadsided a sedan pulling out of a parking lot at Poway High School, killing the other motorist and his teenage son.
Donald Lee Farmer was booked late Tuesday morning on suspicion of DUI, gross vehicular manslaughter and driving without a license, according to jail records.
Shortly after 7 p.m. Feb. 12, Farmer was driving a Mercedes-Benz southbound that struck the driver’s side of the victims’ Toyota in the 15000 block of Espola Road, sheriff’s Sgt. David Toner said.
