A Poway Boy Scout is following in his family’s footsteps by obtaining his Eagle Award.
Spencer Wurtz, a Poway High School sophomore, recently held his Eagle Court of Honor in a private ceremony in a friend’s backyard. The 16-year-old is a member of Scouts BSA Troop 603 under Scout Master Gary Leeson.
Wurtz, the son of Jeff and Dianne Wurtz, said he is a third-generation recipient of the Eagle Award. Scouting is a family tradition, with his great-grandfather, grandfather, two uncles and older brother all earning the award. He has been in Scouting for about eight years, starting as a Cub Scout when he was 8 years old. He has earned 21 merit badges during his time in Scouting, as well as the BSA Youth Religious Knot Award.
