Suspect in Attempted Kidnapping in Battle Creek Receives Charges
A Battle Creek man was formally arraigned Monday afternoon after being arrested on attempting to kidnap a woman riding her bike late last week.
st, after witnesses spotted a man get out of his vehicle and attempt to take the woman into his car from the bike she was riding. Officers were in the Urbandale area after a man was seen in the backyard of a home a few blocks away on Lacey Avenue and was chased off by a resident there.

Earlier today in a virtual arraignment at the Calhoun County District Court, 38-year-old Robert Martinez was charged with a felony count of Attempted Kidnapping and a Misdemeanor charge of Prowling. During the arraignment, Assistant Prosecutor Dan Buscher stated that authorities believe that Martinez and the 34-year-old woman have no prior relationship before the incident.

Attempted Kidnapping Arrest In Urbandale
Battle Creek Police are looking into reports of an attempted kidnapping, Friday afternoon. According to a release from the Battle Creek Police Department, the incident took place in the 1600 block of West Michigan Ave, in Urbandale, around 3:25 PM. An officer made contact with witnesses and the victim a short distance away.
According to reports, a 38-year-old white male was seen driving a red compact four-door. The man allegedly pulled up to a 34-year-old white woman, riding her bike. He exited the vehicle from the passenger side, came up behind the woman and pulled her off her bicycle. He then started to pull her back to his vehicle.
Detectives developed information that tied a Pennsylvania murder suspect to the disappearance and assumed death of Ashley Parlier. She was 21 when she vanished from the Battle Creek area in 2005.
