Family of Andrew Blowers files wrongful death lawsuit against police

BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) –  The family of a man shot to death during a police confrontation last September has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the City of Battle Creek and Calhoun County as well as local police agencies. The Battle Creek Enquirer says the $15.5 million suit was filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, Southern Division and it alleges 22-year-old Andrew Blowers was killed in an unjustified use of deadly force by two officers from the Battle Creek Police Department and a deputy from the Calhoun County Sheriff Department. Blowers was shot following a pursuit which ended on Logistics Drive in the Fort Custer Industrial Park just after midnight last September 5.

The suit alleges that the Battle Creek police officers and Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputy who opened fire “used unnecessary, excessive, reckless and deadly force.”

Police in Battle Creek say they have person of interest in weekend murder case By Brandon James May 4, 2021 6:22 AM BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Police detectives say they have a person of interest in the weekend shooting death of a Battle Creek man. Detective Sgt. Joel Case told the Battle Creek Enquirer that they are hoping to speak to that person soon, but have not released their name due to the nature of their investigation. 62-year-old Daniel Murray was found dead Saturday at his home on Broad St. with four apparent gunshot wounds. His body was found after family members had called police to do a welfare check, as they had not heard from Murray since April 26.
