TORONTO, Feb. 25, 2021 /CNW/ - Fred Victor has received $50,000 in funding from Penny Appeal Canada to support its Women s Bakery – a training program that prepares women for jobs in the food industry.
An increasing number of Toronto women are finding themselves in low-paying, temporary jobs. Unstable employment leads to more women experiencing homelessness, using shelters, and woman-led families in precarious housing.
With the economic impact of the pandemic, even more women will experience poverty and homelessness. The need for practical experience and transferable skills is vital for job security and stability.
Raja Aslam has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records An East Lancashire school teacher has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records. Raja Aslam, who teaches at QEGS in Blackburn has had his name printed in the famous book following his efforts last year to complete a virtual marathon around the town. Mr Aslam is among 37,966 other people who ran the event in their own villages, towns and cities as part of the 24-hour challenge organised by the London Marathon. A teacher in the primary phase at QEGS, Mr Aslam managed to raise a massive £6,305 for the Penny Appeal by completing the 26.2 miles around Blackburn.

EDMONTON Local volunteers are showing that Edmonton hearts have not been chilled by the recent cold weather. Penny Appeal Canada and Edmonton s Sahaba Mosque handed out 300 warm meals Sunday as part of the non-profit s Cold Day, Warm Hearts campaign. In a funding drive, a British charity said Kenya had one of the worst maternal mortality rates in the world, and over one in 20 children died before their fifth birthday.
According to UN estimates, Kenya is one of 21 countries with a very high ratio of maternal deaths.
Different studies estimate the under-five mortality ratio at roughly one in 20, which an expert said was “a fair statement”.
A British charity’s recent appeal for donations said the death rates of mothers and young children in Kenya were very high, giving statistics to support the claim.
