Outdoornews April 22, 2021 From the Game Commission Allegheny County Game Warden Zeb Campbell reports a number of nuisance turkeys in the area. Some are even attacking cars and chasing people. An investigation revealed the turkeys are being fed by someone in the same neighborhood.     Allegheny County Game Warden Zeb Campbell reports more ATV and dirt-bike activity on properties controlled by the Game Commission. These machines cause damage to property that upsets the property owners. Riding on these properties without landowner permission is a violation of the law.  Armstrong County Game Warden Christopher Bence reports charges have been filed against an individual for shooting protected songbirds within several safety zones.

Outdoornews February 25, 2021 From the Game Commission Cumberland County State Game Warden John Fetchkan reports that DMA, trespassing, and baiting violations are still being investigated.  Franklin County State Game Warden Trevor Shauf reports an individual was charged for shooting a deer with a bow out of season within multiple safety zones, as well as over a large bait pile. Another individual pleaded guilty for shooting a protected 3-point antlered deer over bait during the firearms deer season. Fulton County State Game Warden Justin Klugh filed a citation on an individual who was using screw-in steps to reach a treestand on state game lands. He had placed the stand 20 yards from his property boundary.

The public is reminded that high-risk parts from harvested deer cannot be transported from a DMA. Please use an approved local deer processor, or discard high-risk parts in a Game Commission dumpster provided for their collection, when hunting in these areas rather than bringing the whole deer home with you. Beaver County Game Warden Mike Yeck reports a resident was charged and found guilty in the unlawful killing of an adult female black bear. The bear, which was reported to have been rummaging through the resident’s garbage cans with her two cubs, was shot at and hit multiple times with a 9mm handgun. Outdoornews December 17, 2020 From the Game Commission Allegheny County Game Warden Zeb Campbell reports encountering many hunters who had not checked their shotguns for plugs before heading afield. All shotguns used for small game and waterfowl should be plugged to allow only two shells in the tube. Not having a plug is a violation.   Allegheny County Game Warden Zeb Campbell reports a case where someone shot a turkey in a safety zone and did not properly tag the bird, resulting in over $350 worth of fines. A reminder that a safety zone is established around the person’s house even if they do not own the property.
