Letters: An easing of the US travel ban to Britain should be the PM s next goal

4 August 2021 • 12:02am A man holds a bouquet of flowers at Gatwick Airport, London, as vaccinated travellers from US and parts of Europe are allowed to enter Britain Credit: AP/Alberto Pezzali SIR – The Prime Minister has made yet another U-turn on a policy previously signed off by the Cabinet – this time a proposed “amber watch list” for controlling travel to foreign countries (report, August 3). Perhaps he can try his luck with travel to and from America. We are unable to visit our son and his family there because all inward travel from Britain is banned, except for returning residents. They cannot come here because Britain is at level four in America’s table of risk – the highest level. Only emergency travel is approved. The cost of PCR tests in Britain for a family is prohibitive, and their travel insurance would be invalid if they did come. All business travel to Britain is also banned by my son’s employer.

Britain having second thoughts about letting China enter its nuclear power industry

Britain having second thoughts about letting China enter its nuclear power industry ANI | Updated: Aug 04, 2021 13:30 IST London [UK], August 4 (ANI): Britain and China in 2015 signed a deal to let Beijing take an ownership stake in its newest nuclear power plants, but now London is having second thoughts over it as financing and security issues are clouding new power station projects. Financing for a planned power station facing the North Sea, estimated at 20 billion pounds (USD 28 billion) and necessary to ensure a steady stream of electricity for decades, is unexpectedly in doubt. Part of the problem is attracting investors to a project one-fifth owned by China.
