PIERRE – Regan Bollweg will soon be a Jackrabbit.
Months ago, the Pierre Governors’ two-time All-State tight end said he would go to South Dakota State. Wednesday, the Jackrabbits officially announced that Bollweg is part of their new recruiting class.
In the last two seasons, Bollweg had 1,465 yards in receptions and a school-record 20 touchdowns in helping Pierre to its third and fourth consecutive 11AA championships. He also has the Governors’ career sack record with 20 and a half and the single-season record of 13 and a half in 2019.
Also, Bollweg was state runner-up in the 195-pound weight class in wrestling last season.
HURON – Again, the Pierre Governor girls fell short after playing well.
Tuesday, Huron held off Pierre 72-71 at Huron Arena. With Pierre (0-2) leading 69-67 and having the ball, Isabella Shreeve stole an inbounds pass and fed Heaven Gainey for a layup and three-point play for a go-ahead free throw with 26.5 seconds left. Huron later hit two free throws and Caytee Williams hit a shot just before the final buzzer for the Governors for the last points of the game.
Tenley Buddenhagen led Huron with 22. Remington Price led Pierre with 23 and hit five three-pointers. Hannah Sazue had four threes and 14 points. Ayvrie Kaiser also scored 14. Williams scored 13.

HARRISBURG – A very young Pierre Governor team played hard but fell short Friday, but lost at Harrisburg 45-43.
Hayden Muirhead led the Tigers with 14 points, but the Governors’ Lincoln Kienholz led all scorers with 26 points.
Pierre trailed by as many 15 in the second half before a basket at the final buzzer cut the deficit to two.

PIERRE – Pierre Governor wrestlers Emalee Larson, Ciara McFarling and Blake Judson are this winter sports season’s first Pierre Athletic Coaches Association-Avera Athletes of the Week.
Larson and McFarling are the first girls’ tournament champions for Governor Wrestling. Larson went 3-0 on December 4 to win her division and McFarling went 2-1 to win hers at the Clark-Willow Lake Invitational.
Judson, a member of the Pierre boys’ JV team that won the tournament, won the 120-pound division and was named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler. In the 120-pound championship match, Judson defeated 2020 Class B runner-up Gunnar Kvistad of Clark-Willow Lake by technical fall.
