ANKARA: The EU on Dec. 17 announced the finalizing contracting process of €6 billion ($7.3 billion) in aid for refugees hosted by Turkey, focused on the 4 million Syrian refugees who since 2011 fled the war in their home country for safe shelter in Turkey.
“The EU Delegation to Turkey signs the final eight contracts under the Facility for Refugees in Turkey [FRIT] this week. Under the contracts, the EU provides €780 million in support to refugees in terms of basic needs, health care, protection, municipal infrastructure and vocational and technical education and training, employment and support to private sector, SMEs and entrepreneurship,” said the EU Delegation to Turkey in a statement.

THE resilience of St Martins Lutheran College students was praised by principal Alan Connah at Tuesday’s celebration marking the release of South Australian Certificate of Education results.
David Zwijnenburg topped the college class of 2020 with 98.90, including a Merit in Physics.
Of the 50 college students to complete their SACE, 12pc achieved an ATAR of 90 or above.
They included Kate McGregor (95.15), Ella Driscoll (90.90), Abubakir Abduvahobov (90.85) and Joshua Bonanno (90.75).
Mr Connah said the school had tried to “normalise” the year as much as possible throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, adding while it had been a rollercoaster ride, 2020 had been successful for the college.

The Sunyani Technical University (STU) at the weekend held its 13th congregation and awarded Bachelor of Technology degrees to 389 graduates.
They successfully underwent four-year programmes in Engineering, Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET), Applied Science and Technology, Applied Arts as well as Business and Management disciplines.
The graduates comprised 226 males and 163 females, with 65 of them obtaining first class, 253 second class upper, and 71 second class lower.
Speaking at the ceremony held in Sunyani, Professor Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, the Vice-Chancellor of the STU, emphasised the University was prepared to absorb more students and therefore urged qualified applicants, particularly from the free Senior High School programmes to apply, as the University re-opens in January 2021.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, urged Government to to walk the talk as the country keeps producing more graduates into the business environment.
She has urged Technical universities in the country not to deviate from their mandate and concentrate on quality entrepreneurs to fill the middle to high level manpower that the nation requires for progress.
She gave the advice during the first session (virtual) of the 13th congregation for Bachelor Technology programmes of the Sunyani Technical University (STU).
Nana Amfo called on the government to recognize graduates of technical universities in their placement and create the enabling environment that would allow private persons to create sustainable jobs.
