Storms, high winds cause power outages in Springfield, IL

City Water, Light and Power crews were responding Sunday morning to power outages affecting three areas of Springfield due to stormy weather conditions. Windy conditions and lightning have caused trouble in the electric system and forecast is calling for this to continue to about 10 a.m. Sunday. The largest customer area affecting 1,030 customers along West Iles Avenue south of Outer Park Drive between Veterans Parkway and South MacArthur Boulevard. A tree branch was found along lines and crews are trying to clear it. Another outage area affecting 221 customers is an area north and south of West Jefferson Street between Meadowlark Lane and Churchill Road.

Four confirmed tornadic touchdowns in central Illinois Monday Severe thunderstorms moved through the region Monday afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service in Lincoln, IL has released their preliminary report, after storm spotters reported multiple tornadoes Monday. The National Weather Service has confirmed that 4 touchdowns occurred between 5 PM and 7 PM in Cass and Sangamon Counties. All of the tornadoes have been rated as EF-U, or EF Unknown due to a limited amount of damage available to survey. Joe Strus
