Mudslide closes I-70 through Glenwood Canyon

Interstate 70 was closed in both directions through Glenwood Canyon for hours while crews worked to clear a mudslide near the No Name exit Saturday. The eastbound lanes have reopened but the westbound lanes remain closed, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). The closure is between Glenwood Springs and Dotsero, CDOT said, with an additional closure point at West Rifle. Crews are assessing the slide and current weather.

Updated: 9:41 PM MDT June 26, 2021 GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. The westbound lanes of Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon are still closed while crews work to clear a mudslide near the No Name exit. The highway was closed in both directions after the mudslide, which happened at around 3 p.m. The eastbound lanes reopened at around 8 p.m. Saturday, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). The closure is between Glenwood Springs and Dotsero. The mudslide is 70 feet wide and five to seven feet deep, according to CDOT, and consists mostly loose dirt and mud with some small rocks.  It s not clear when the highway will reopen, but CDOT expects the cleanup to last into the night.
