Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), ordered on Saturday, July 10, the creation of a Technical Working Group (TWG) that will study and incorporate the rules on the use of the body-worn cameras issued by the Supreme Court to the existing protocols of the police force.
Eleazar said he had already tasked the Directorate for Operations and the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) to come up with the list of people who will form the TWG in the soonest possible time.
Eleazar said the TWG was also instructed to come up with modules that will be used in the training and seminar programs on all the legal aspect of the use of BWCs to the police units which received the units last month.

A total of 83 policemen were dismissed from the service while 128 others were penalized for failure to attend court hearings on various cases filed by the Philippine National Police (PNP) that include drugs charges in the past few years.
PNP Chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said the penalties slapped against the policemen are proof that the disciplinary mechanisms in the police organization are in place.
“Our mandate as policemen does not end in arresting those who committed crimes. Part of our job is to attend court hearings especially if policemen are summoned by the court or if they are the arresting officers,” said Eleazar.

MANILA, Philippines Homicide cases in the country went up by at least 21 percent last month, according to an official of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Brig. Gen. Sterling Raymund Blanco, director of the PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management, said on Monday that 95 homicides were documented across the country last April, which is higher compared to 78 cases in March, an increase of 21.79 percent.
Blanco did not give figures but said the regions with the most number of homicides are Central Luzon, Bicol, Central Visayas and Soccsksargen.
