PH homicide cases up by 22% in April- PNP

Published May 4, 2021, 5:21 PM Homicide cases in the country rose by almost 22 percent in the entire month of April this year, with the Philippine National Police (PNP) attributing it to the easing of restrictions in some regions. Based on the data of the PNP’s Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM), a total of 95 homicide cases were reported in April compared to 78 in March which represents 21.8 percent increase. DIDM director Brig. Gen. Sterling Blanco said the increase in homicide cases were recorded in Central Luzon, Bicol, Central Visayas and Central Mindanao. “Majority of these cases are shooting and stabbing incidents in residential areas. The motive are usually heated arguments or personal grudges,” said Blanco.

Admin charges filed against cops involved in curfew violator s death

SunStar + April 20, 2021 THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has filed administrative charges against three policemen who penalized curfew violator Darren Peñaredondo with strenuous physical exercises. Peñaredondo died of stroke on April 3, more than 24 hours after he was made to do 300 rounds of pumping exercise in General Trias in Cavite. Corporal Jerome Vibar and Police Corporal Kenneth Mercene were charged with grave misconduct resulting in homicide and grave neglect of duty, according to Police Colonel John Guyguyon of the PNP-Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM). Lieutenant Colonel Marlo Solero, the relieved chief of police of General Trias, is also facing charges for grave neglect of duty for failing to take corrective action either before or during the incident.

21 senior PNP officials revamped

(MANILA BULLETIN) Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Luis Licup has been moved to the Office of the Chief PNP four days ahead of his mandatory retirement on April 9 from being the head of the Directorate for Comptrollership. Licup served as the regional director of Police Regional Office-MIMAROPA (Mindoro Oriental and Occidental Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) and Police Regional Office 9 before he was designated as head of the Directorate for Operations and eventually the head of the Directorate for Comptrollership. Licup,  a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 1987,   will be replaced by Brig. Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr. The post that would be vacated by Azurin as regional director of Police Regional Office 1, will be taken over by Brig. Gen. Randolph Balonglong.

Sinas shows up late for virtual Senate hearing; draws ire from senators

During the roll call of the resource persons, the committee secretary said “there was no reply” from Sinas’ office when they were contacted about the hearing. Instead, he sent Police Major Gen. Marni Marcos Jr., head of the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management, to represent the institution. Marcos explained that Sinas was “attending other activities”.
